Junior Leadership Training 2007

On the weekend of February 9 – 11, 2007, the scouts and leaders of Troop 422 conducted their annual Junior Leadership Training weekend at Fall Creek Falls State Park. Taking a break from their normal winter camping, the troop rented out Group Lodge II. Friday night, the newly elected scout leaders were sworn into their positions at a ceremony in Lodge Building A. Afterwards, the scouts were treated to popcorn and the movie “Zathura” on DVD.

After a boisterous night for many, the scouts began Saturday with a mix of indoor training sessions, combined with outdoor team building activities organized by new adult leader Linda Montalbano. Among the tasks was a cake baking and decorating competition between the patrols.

The highlight of the campout was a group hike. While one group of scouts and leaders hiked to the bottom of the frozen Fall Creek Falls, another group braved the challenge of the Cable Trail, descending down a cliff face to below the Cane Creek Falls. There, the scouts were treated to the wonder of a frozen pool, solid enough to walk on (if their scoutmaster had allowed them to), filled by two icicle covered waterfalls.

After a dinner of lasagna, the scouts participated in a flag retirement ceremony lead by scout Reed K. Later, the scouts snacked on their patrol cakes while enjoying watching the movie “Master and Commander”. After a busy day, only four scouts made it to the end of the movie.

After Sunday breakfast and a short but spirited worship service led by incoming Chaplain’s Aide Justin C. and outgoing Chaplain’s Aide Taylor R., the troop departed Fall Creek Falls for the drive home.
