Cold Weather Troop Camping We need to plan for COLD WEATHER camping, this is MUCH different than our spring and summer camping so start making plans now to acquire the correct gear for camping. The link above has a good checklist to follow. Be thinking about a warmer sleeping bag, Example @ Walmart, a fleece blanket, stocking hat (worn while sleeping), warm socks (not cotton), hand and foot warmer packs (Walmart, academy, amazon), two sets of footwear, warm winter coat. We need to stay away from Cotton clothing as it absorbs and holds moisture and that makes you very cold, especially at night.
Also, Scouts need to be organized and plan what merit badges they will work on while on this campout (book, merit badge worksheet etc…). We should be taking advantage of the opportunity to work on and complete merit badge requirements. This will be a big campout and we had a BLAST last year.
We also would like to have some more parents come on this campout, it’s a great time to get away for the weekend and enjoy time with your Scout and other great parents.
Watch soon for the signup genius info…
Hello All,
There is a PLC tonight, not a regular meeting.
Our next regular meeting is November 2nd.
Poppy Sales are on Saturday, November 7th from 1:00-4:00pm. Our Troop is sponsored by Smyrna VFW Post 8422 (Veterans of Foreign Wars). Each year on the Saturday prior to Veteran’s Day, we help the VFW by handing out red flower poppies for people to wear, while collecting donations for the VFW. This money is used to support local veterans and their families.
Poppies symbolize remembrance of our Veterans and the sacrifices they have made for our Country. Please help us thank our sponsoring organization, and honor our veterans by participating in this year’s effort. Scouts & Parents will need to sign up on Signup Genius. (The link to sign up will be sent out in a separate email.)
This time will be recorded as community service hours.
Details: Arrive at the VFW at 12:00. Distribute poppies from 1-4pm. Return to VFW with money & remaining poppies.
We also need a few Scouts & Parents to help with counting the money at the VFW following the poppy sales.
