It’s that crunchy, buttery time of the year, as Troop 422 kicks off its annual Popcorn Fundraiser. Each year, the troop sells Trail’s End popcorn to raise money for individual scouts to use for scouting activities and equipment. Thirty percent of a scout’s popcorn sales goes directly to his scout account, to be used to pay for registration, campouts, activities, and scouting equipment.
Cheryl Jones, the troop’s popcorn coordinator, kicked off the sales event on Monday night (9/17/07) with a presentation to the scouts and the handing out of order forms. Order forms are due back by the October 15th troop meeting (or the October 22nd PLC). In addition to the 30% rewards, each week scouts who fill up an entire order form will be entered into a council-wide drawing for prizes.
Last year, Life Scout Ian S. was the highest popcorn seller in the Middle Tennessee Council, and the twenty-sixth highest seller in the nation, having sold $7500. Part of that money was used to pay for Ian to attend the Scouting World Jamboree in London, England this July.
Mrs. Jones has written a popcorn fact sheet that can be found on the web site under Documents – Troop Documents. If you have further questions, you can e-mail her at popcorn@troop422.org.
