Here are some other activities and news items for the troop in late 2005 and in 2006:
- 12/09/06 – The scouts and families of Troop 422, joined by Webelos from Pack 842 and Pack 482, celebrated Christmas with a bowling party at the Smyrna Bowling Center.
- 12/03/06 – The troop spent a chilly weekend at Cedars of Lebanon State Park camping with Webelo scouts of Pack 842 and Pack 482. Saturday, the scouts worked on First Aid and lashing skills in preparation for the coming Winter Camporee. In an omen of Smyrna High School winning the Division 5A state championship later in the evening, the Bulldog team handily won the pioneering chariot race. Later in the afternoon, the scouts provided service to the park by spread mulch on a new hiking trail. Saturday night, everyone dined on New York Strip steak.
- 11/27/06 – In honor of their years of service to the troop and the district, outgoing Scoutmaster Stanley Dunn and former Committee Chairman Billy Necessary were honored at tonight’s Court of Honor with gifts from the troop. Each was presented with a new, silver tabbed uniform to assist them as they take on more district responsibilities. However, the troop will insure that both uniforms have the Troop 422 patch firmly sewn on the left sleeve.
- 11/27/06 – Dale Bryson has successfully completed his Woodbadge training and received his knot, certificate, scarf, and slide at the troop’s Court of Honor. Wood Badge, Scouting’s premier training course, is the most advanced training available for Scout Leaders who are involved in the programs of the Boy Scouts of America. Baden-Powell designed it so that Scouters could learn, in as practical a way possible, the skills and methods of Scouting.
- 11/18/06 – This morning, scouts from the troop assisted the Smyrna LaVergne Food Bank in counting, sorting, and storing food collected through the annual Scouting for Food program. County-wide, over 25,000 food items were collected to assist the needy in Rutherford County. Special thanks go out to Troop Committee Chairman Dale Bryson for organizing the district-wide event for the second consecutive year.
- 11/11/06 – This afternoon, sixteen scouts from the troop assisted our sponsor, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8422, in their annual Buddy Poppy Drive to honor disabled veterans. For more than 75 years, the VFW’s Buddy Poppy program has raised millions of dollars in support of veterans’ welfare and the well being of their dependents. Together with the efforts of Cub Scout Pack 842, over $1500 dollars were raised to assist disabled veterans. For more information about the Buddy Poppy program, see the official VFW web site.
- 10/19/06 – Trey Martin and Nick Fowler passed their Eagle Boards of Review and are now the twenty-fifth and twenty-sixth Eagle Scouts from Troop 422.
- 09/20/06 – Joshua Hodges passed his Eagle Board of Review and is now the twenty-fourth Eagle Scout from Troop 422.
- 08/21/06 – Roxanne Hatter has successfully completed her Woodbadge training and received her certificate, scarf, and slide at the troop’s Court of Honor. - 08/19/06 – The scouts, leaders, and parents of Troop 422 conducted a car wash fund raiser in the parking lot at the Tractor Supply in Smyrna. Between pre-sale tickets, drive up customers, and concessions, the troop raised over $1800. Special thanks to Lisa Fowler for organizing the fund raiser. Photo Album
- 08/04/06 – Several scouts from Troop 422 participated in annual Tennessee Scenic Rivers Association Whitewater School on the Hiwassee River. The scouts learned valuable whitewater skills while enjoying the fun of canoeing a class 2 white water river.
- 05/27/06 – Troop 422 participated in placing American flags at the headstones in the cemetery at Stones River Battlefield. The troop does this each year to honor veterans who have sacrificed the most in defense of our liberties.
- 04/08/06 – Several scouts from Troop 422 participated in rappelling and climbing activities at the rappelling tower at Boxwell Scout Reservation during the Beaver Days weekend. The scouts were lead in their day long high adventure activities by Assistant Scoutmaster Rob Reeves, who was ably assisted by other assistant scoutmasters and training leaders.
- 04/08/06 – Nine scouts from Troop 422 were tapped out at a campfire ceremony of the Order of the Arrow at Boxwell Scout Reservation. The Order of the Arrow is the national honors organization for Boy Scouting, and the selection of these outstanding youth is a honor to their contribution to the troop and to Scouting.
- 03/10/06 – Tim Shaw is one of the six recipents of this year’s District Long Rifle Award. Previous recipents in our troop include Stanley Dunn, Billy Necessary, Melody Rose, David Shinn, and Paul Todd. Congratulations to Tim!
- 2/18/06 – Daniel Necessary had his Court of Honor at 2 PM at Stewarts Creek Church of Christ and was officially awarded the rank of Eagle Scout. Photo Album
- 02/09/06 – Our web site is now listed on the Scouting the Net website, a useful portal for the scouting community.
- 02/03/06 – Eleven scouts and family members attended the victory of the Nashville Kats over the Columbus Destroyers at the Gaylord Entertainment Center.
- 01/28/06 – Fifteen scouts and family members attended the MTSU Blue Raisers Scout Night basketball game as the Blue Raiders men’s team defeated Louisiana-Lafeyette (73-59).
- 01/13/06 – 01/15/06 – The scouts competed and won several ribbons at the District Winter Camporee at Camp Tubb. Photo Album
- 01/07/06 – The scouts delivered their final batch of Christmas Trees collected at the VFW to the TWRA to create fish habitats in Percy Priest Lake. Photo Album
- 12/31/05 – The scouts delivered their first batch of Christmas trees collected at the VFW to the TWRA to create fish habitats in Percy Priest Lake.
- 12/26/05 – Used Christmas trees can be taken to the VFW Post 8422 on Old Nashville Highway. The scouts are taking the trees to the TWRA to use to create fishing habitats in Percy Priest Lake.
- 12/22/05 – The scouts delivered presents to the residents of the Bethany Health Care Center. Photo Album
- 12/14/05 – Daniel Necessary has passed his Eagle Board of Review and has now become the 23rd Eagle Scout from Troop 422.
